DMD2 Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL QUESTIONS

What is DMD2?
DMD2 is a motorcycle-specific Android navigation app designed to run as either a regular app or a full launcher. Its focus is on simplicity, off-road/adventure navigation, and seamless handlebar controller support. Built by riders, for riders.

What is DMD Navigation?
DMD (Drive Mode Dashboard) is a full ecosystem for adventure motorcycles. It includes the DMD2 app, rugged Android-based devices, remote handlebar controllers, an OBD2 Bluetooth dongle, and a series of mounting accessories.

What devices can run DMD2?
DMD2 runs on any Android device but is fully optimized for the DMD-T865, T865X, and T665 devices. These come preloaded with the DMD2 app, lifetime licenses, and hardware support.

Is there a monthly fee?
No. If you purchase a DMD device (T665, T865, or T865X), it includes a lifetime license for DMD2 and its plugins.

Where can I get the app?
DMD2 is available on the Google Play Store. It is pre-installed on all DMD navigation devices.

Can I use it offline?
Yes. Once your region's maps are downloaded, you can navigate entirely offline. Internet is only required for features like satellite view and group tracking.

How often are offline maps updated?
New maps are pushed roughly every two months. You’ll be notified in the app and must trigger updates manually via the Map Layer settings. A data connection is required for the update.

Can I customize the home screen?
Yes. The dashboard is fully widget-based and supports rotating panels for widgets like OBD2 sensors, navigation data, media controls, and app shortcuts.

Can I launch other apps from DMD2?
Absolutely. The "Apps" view lets you favorite, hide, or launch apps directly. This makes switching between DMD2 and other tools seamless.

Can I give feedback or request features?
Yes! DMD2 is shaped by rider input. You can reach out via the official forum, Facebook group, Discord, or through your reseller.

DMD2 FUNCTIONALITY

What sections are included in DMD2?

  • Home Screen (Free)

  • Map View (Paid)

  • Roadbook Reader (Paid)

  • OBD2 Dashboard (Paid)

  • App Drawer (Free)

  • Global Settings (Free)

What makes it better than other GPS apps?
DMD2 is optimized for gloves, controllers, off-road use, minimal taps, and visibility in harsh riding conditions. It's not a car nav app with extra features—it's purpose-built for motorcycles.

Does DMD2 support GPX?
Yes. GPX is the core of DMD2. It supports GPX tracking, route following, waypoint navigation, and live progress updates.

Is there support for OBD2?
Yes. Using a compatible Bluetooth OBD dongle, DMD2 can display live sensor data such as engine temp, throttle, RPM, and voltage.

Which dongle is recommended?
The DMD Scan M1 is recommended for its speed, waterproofing, and perfect compatibility. Based on the vLinker FS, it’s been optimized with custom firmware.

Which bikes are confirmed to work with OBD2?
A full compatibility list is available on the official DMD site. It includes BMW, KTM, Husqvarna, Yamaha, Honda, Triumph, and Harley models from 2013 onward.

CONTROLLERS & CONNECTIONS

Do I need a handlebar controller?
No, but DMD2 is built to work best with one. It minimizes the need to touch the screen while riding.

What are the controller options?

  • Remote 1: Aluminum, no compromises, 4-way + 2-way switch.

  • Remote 2: Full 360° joystick for map panning.

  • Remote 3: Rally layout, 3-button with long switch.

Do they work by Bluetooth or cable?
Both. All models support Bluetooth. If you want cable connection, Remote 2 includes a plug-and-play splitter harness for the T665. Other remotes require manual wiring.

Do controllers work with non-DMD apps?
Yes. They're compatible with Locus, OSMAnd, Kurviger, Google Maps, and more.

INSTALLATION & SETUP

What is AMPS?
A universal 4-hole mounting pattern (30mm x 38mm) used by most GPS units and phone mounts. All DMD navigation holders use AMPS.

What do I need to mount my device?
Most motorcycles will require a compatible AMPS base mount. Options vary by bike model—some have a 12mm crossbar, others may need an adapter.

Can I use my DMD device in a car?
Yes. Additional holders are available with USB charging for vehicle use.

Can I connect to a PC?
Yes. Swipe down on the device, select USB preferences, and choose "File Transfer."
